Josephine

Jan. 1997

I wrestled Joshepine of the Shadows in Berkeley, California, last week and she is everything she's been advertised to be. At 5'6" and about 140#, she claimed to be out of shape from having not worked out too much recently. I'd almost hate to face her when she's in shape.

Before getting into the details, I'll tell you that Josephine is one of the most charming and delightful young people I've had the pleasure to meet in several years. She is articulate, educated, and has a vibrant, healthy exuberance that is contagious. I was absolutely charmed by her personal and her physical presence. Josephine is not a bodybuilder but has bigger biceps than mine and very, very strong shoulders, back, calves and particularly thighs. She has shoulder length blonde hair, sky blue eyes, and wore a black, T-back wrestling bikini. Her wrestling style is serious, competitive and intent - she didn't give me a second to relax if her top started to slip, she'd just tie me up and casually slide it back in place.

As for the match, Josephine beat me six falls to none over a 50 minute period with mainly head scissors, which she somehow always managed to work her way into even when I knew it was coming. She made me submit to a body scissors only once, but only because she had my arm stretched and twisited into a very unnatural position. I spent at least 20 of the 50 minutes with my torso between her thighs but that was the only time I ever had to submit from there. I think I've reasonably strong abdominals and a high tolerance for pain rather than her scissors not being very powerful.

At one point I did have her pinned and unable to escape for about 4 minutes. I was trying at that point, down three falls to none, to choke her into submission and she just wouldn't quit. I foolishly tried to manuver her into a scissors and the next thing I knew she had me again. I did pay for trying to cj\hoke her - she gleefully returned the favor, maintaining the grip even after I'd tapped out.

She also got me once in a schoolboy pin, with my arms between her thighs and calves, and my arms stretched over my head to their limit. I could not move at all, and she made me beg for mercy before she'd relax the pressure on my hands, which had gone too long without blood and were numb. She still wouldn't get off, and I still could'nt budge her. I'd worked her pretty hard and she got her rest, pleasantly sitting on my neck and chin, telling me about how much she likes wrestling her friend Redd (whom, according to Josephine, would also enjoy beating my ass).

I'm 40 years old and 160 pounds, pretty strong but not cardio-vascularly exceptional. Anyone my size or smaller who isn't a serious or former collegiate-level wrestler is going to be very seriously challanged if they want to work out with Jospehine.

The Shadows is a good place to wrestle. Their room is maybe 18-18 - not too big but plenty of room as it worked out (again Josephine is 5'6" and I'm 6'0"). Their mats are probably 12' x 12' and very clean; their shower is right next door to the wrestling room (your session is typically 45 minutes of wrestling and 15 minutes to shower). Only my opinion, but I'd rate Josephine four or five stars, whichever is highest on your scale. She's great!
